Why do people do stupid things?

Now, I fully realize that there are many reasons why people do stupid things. I also understand that we may never know why some people do the things they do. For example, I work in an institution of "higher" learning. This is supposed to be a place of "higher" intelligence. "Higher" cognitive processes should be employed in decision making. A "higher" level of service should be given to the students that attend this campus.

So tell me, how is it possible that an employee of this institution can show the highest disregard for students they are supposed to be serving? How is it that an employee can lose control of themselves and get in a shouting match with a student and provoke them by words and actions? We claim to be a student-centered institution.

There are employees here that are not at all student-centered. They are self-centered. I am not questioning the hiring practices of this school. What I am wondering is how do these people get jobs in "higher" education? How do people that can not speak the English language correctly get jobs in "higher" education? How do they get their masters degree in "higher" education?

I am disillusioned. I hate working with or for idiots. Have any of you experienced this phenomenon? Please share your thoughts.

I just thought I would add this photo to show you an example of what my life is like now. This was taken the first day that Kennedy came home from the hospital. Obviously, she won the first battle. Actually, she has won all of the battles. I don't mind, though. She had me wrapped around her tiny finger the moment she was born. As I was discussing with my friend Wendy, she is the smallest human I have ever seen! It's amazing the power she has over me! I wonder what it is about babies that makes us melt when they smile (even when it is an involuntary smile caused by gas!). We just lose control.
